Bush seeks Okinawa support on plan to relocate U.S. base facilities

(Kyodo) _ U.S. President George W. Bush expressed hope Tuesday that people in Okinawa will support the recent agreement with Japan on a new plan to relocate the U.S. Marine Corps Futemma Air Station within the prefecture and for moving 7,000 Marines out of Okinawa.

Koizumi urges not limiting fuel, auto tax revenue's use to roads

Top LDP policy maker says it's too early to discuss tax hike

Japan needs to resolve its decade-long deflation before considering an increase in the consumption tax, the ruling Liberal Democratic Party's top policy-maker said Sunday. Hidenao Nakagawa, chairman of the LDP's Policy Research Council, said reducing bloated budgets and battling deflation should come before any talk of tax hikes.

Support rate for Koizumi Cabinet jumps to 60.1% after reshuffle

(Kyodo) _ Japan remained cautious Thursday over North Korea showing its first sign of flexibility over the North's earlier demand that Japan return the ashes of a Japanese abductee. "(North Korea) finally accepted (the fact)...but there is a need to carefully get information on the intent and background of such a remark," Senior Vice Foreign Minister Ichiro Aisawa said in a news conference.
