(Kyodo) _ A new constitution draft prepared by a panel of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party addresses five kinds of rights that are not stated in the current Constitution promulgated in 1947, including people's right of access to government information, party sources said Saturday.

(Kyodo) _ Japan and North Korea are expected to resume next week their stalled governmental talks that could pave the way for normalizing diplomatic ties between them, a Seoul daily reported Thursday. "The North and Japan have come close to an agreement that the negotiations would resume next week," the JoongAng Ilbo quoted an anonymous South Korean foreign ministry official as saying.

(Kyodo) _ Japan is ready to have ministerial-level talks with China over Chinese gas and oil exploration in East China Sea fields, Economy, Trade and Industry Minister Shoichi Nakagawa said Sunday after lower-level talks ended at odds Saturday. "In some cases, (Japan) will accept ministerial-level talks," Nakagawa told reporters.

(Kyodo) _ Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi demonstrated a strong determination Monday to again seek enactment of the bills to privatize Japan Post in his policy address at a special Diet session. "I respect the voice of the people and take it upon myself to realize postal privatization," Koizumi said, referring to his party's landslide victory in the Sept. 11 general election.

Koizumi obtained 340 of the 479 votes cast in the House of Representatives, with most independents, mostly ousted in effect from his Liberal Democratic Party for opposing postal privatization bills, joining the 327-member ruling bloc in voting for him.

(Kyodo) _ Japan and North Korea confirmed they will make efforts to settle contentious bilateral issues and normalize diplomatic ties in an appropriate manner based on a bilateral document signed in 2002 by the leaders of the two nations, according to a joint statement adopted on Monday at the six-party nuclear talks in Beijing.
